I’ve been working with Ramsey Janini to make a comic strip called Nothing Rhymes With Rats. It’s about two rats as they navigate life. Everything from the domestic to the cosmic and spiritual (spoiler: these all overlap in significant ways!)

Early in the strip’s history, their environment was a cage, but both Ramsey and I wanted to put something out into the world that was more optimistic. Optimism can be a weapon, and it seemed a much better approach for us in the way we dealt with the circumstances of our own lives. Faced with some difficult moments, cynical snark seemed less satisfying….

NRWR #6 – Walking Down the Nihl

I feel like I’m on a little roll with these. Normally I do about one a year just to reset from “serious art” mode, but I’ve just banged two out within 24 hrs. (I guess I have a lot to flush out). I’m going to do this thing where I schedule this to post in the future.  A week from the last one sounds like a good amount of time. Also, I wouldn’t want to devalue the brand* releasing two, one after the other, all willy-nilly.

*sarcasm

NRWR #5 – Bedtime

I decided to make another NRWR as I have a few more days off work this week, so wanted to start and finish a small project.  Also, just having re-vamped my webpage as a wordpress, I wanted to take this baby out for a test drive and easily upload ‘some content’.  Its very satisfying.

As usual, NRWR is written by Ramsey Janini.  He’s written a ton of them, and something about them keeps me coming back to make more…even if that cycle is about a year long!

NRWR #4 – Twinkle, Twinkle

Nothing Rhymes with Rats #3 was skipped as it is an animation that was lost when my laptop was stolen.  I assure you it was quite good though. Perhaps I’ll remake some version of it.

NRWR #2 – Kafkaesque

This NRWR is quite different from the first. I’m not committed to any particular look for these guys, and in this strip I just wanted to show how extremely irrational they are.
